Honey glazed chicken wings

Chicken wings are really comfort food. My honey glazed chicken wings are marinated in a homemade char siu sauce. You can bake the chicken wings in the oven or put it on the BBQ. I BBQ the chicken wings for few minutes for the smokey flavor and then let it cook further in the oven. It is much healthier and to make sure the chicken wings are cooked properly. Always let the meat rest a few minutes before cutting or eaten as the meat will be juicier.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken wings
  • 2 tbs light soy sauce
  • 1 tbs dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbs hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 tbs five spice powder
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbs honey or sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika powder, optional
  • 1 tbs red fermented bean curd, optional
  • 2 tbsp honey and tsp water for the glaze

Marinate the chicken wings with all the ingredients for about 2 hours, but preferably overnight in the fridge. The longer you marinate, the better the taste. I try to use less salt and no alcohol. You could add some salt and Chinese cooking wine to the marinade.

Oven baked chicken wings, bake the chicken wings at 160° Celsius for about 35-40 minutes and turn halfway the chicken wings. After turn the heat up til 200° Celsius and glaze the chicken wings with the honey on one side, bake around 5-10 minutes till brown and turn and glaze the other side as well and bake till brown.
